For more than sixty years I photographed the American wilderness—especially Yosemite—with a reverence for light, detail, and grandeur. I developed the Zone System to master exposure and contrast, and I printed my negatives with obsessive care so every rock, tree, and cloud felt alive.
My camera was never just a tool; it was a way to celebrate nature and fight for its protection. I lived in California, worked in black and white, and never stopped believing that a great photograph could move people to preserve the beauty they saw in it.
